Ashtabula County Airport Authority Awarded $200,000 Appalachian Regional Commission Grant

The Ashtabula County Airport Authority / Northeast Ohio Regional Airport was awarded an Appalachian Regional Commission Grant in the amount of $200,000. This grant will be funded via State Appalachia Funds.

This grant will be used for the costs associated with the building of a new Terminal Building at Northeast Ohio Regional Airport. This is a $530,000 project. $30,000 will be contributed from the Cleveland Foundation, via a Donor Advised Fund. $300,000 will be contributed by OH Air, LLC.

The project is targeted to be completed within 18 months. ACAA is appreciative of the efforts of Jennifer Brown, of CT Consultants, for the successful execution of the grant process for the ACAA. Kathy Zook, representing Eastgate, the Regional Council of governments, the Appalachian Regional Commission Program Manager, presented the ACAA with the $200,000 grant, along with Jason Wilson, Director, Governor’s Office of Appalachia.

Paul Strack, of Michael Baker, the Project Engineer provided much of the detail and documentation needed for the technical aspects of the grant, and has been an integral part of the success of the process. David Pontius, of Andrews and Pontius LLC, Airport legal counsel, provided guidance and support throughout, ensuring a successful outcome. Gary Hall also provided assistance in the formations of the building cost estimates. The ARC grant process was a truly collaborative project between County government, local effort, private funding, and State support.
